There is evidence of tattoos dating as far back as the 4th millennium BC; however, in the more recent past, the matter of tattoos was a controversial one. While tattoos will always be taboo for some, the ink art exploded in the last 25 years and tattoos have become commonplace. The popular perception of tattoos has shifted from deviant behaviour to being considered as a serious art movement.
Many view tattoos as a form of self-expression; some get inked to honour someone or to commemorate an event in their life. Although you may be sure at the time of your tattoo that you will always feel passionate about the artwork, there is no guarantee.
Whether it is that your tattoo did not come out quite the way you wanted or reminds you of something you’d rather forget, we can help. Renew Laser Ltd. offers an effective solution to your unwanted tattoos—whether you want full removal or just fading to cover up with new ink.
Here’s what you need to know:
How the laser tattoo removal process works
The laser injects the skin with short pulsed intense laser beams. The beams pass through the skin to break up tattoo pigment particles of all colours and shades into smaller particles. These pigment particles will be flushed by the body’s immune system over time.
It will require multiple sessions to remove a tattoo. The number of sessions will depend on the size and scope of the area. Each tattoo will react to the laser treatment differently. Black and dark blue inks respond best to laser treatments when compared with lighter colours. Your results may also be affected by the age of the tattoo, whether or not it was professionally done, and the area in which it is located.
The removal process can range from three sessions to more than 15. Most treatment sessions will last no longer than 30 minutes, start to finish. These sessions will need to be scheduled four to eight weeks apart (depending on your skin type) to give the body time to remove the fragmented pigments.
Is laser tattoo removal safe?
Energy from the laser is harmless as it only targets the pigmented skin. It does not emit UV rays, so it will not increase your chances of skin related diseases or cancers. With new technology, there is also little risk of scarring and side effects from the procedure are most often temporary. These side effects may include swelling, redness, mild burning, temporary bruising and/or blistering, hypopigmentation (loss of skin pigment) or hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin).
The laser removal process can be uncomfortable, and in some cases painful, depending on the area of the body being treated and the size of the tattoo.
This varies from person to person. At Renew Laser Ltd. we use an advanced skin cooling machine to help minimize discomfort during and after the laser removal treatment. You may also take over the counter pain medication to help alleviate the pain. Ensure whatever product you use does not contain aspirin as it can increase your chances of bruising and/or bleeding.
Before scheduling your laser tattoo removal appointment, we recommend coming in for a consultation where we can discuss all the possible side effects and provide you with pre and post-treatment care instructions. This consultation is complimentary.
